A look at the Bengals' roster after Saturday's preseason finale against the Colts at Paycor Stadium and before Monday's first cuts and Tuesday's next configuration by 4 p.m. on the way to Opening Day.

As always, the waiver wire looms for more moves, and the Bengals could be on the lookout for depth at guard, defensive tackle, and safety. Or anywhere else they may see an upgrade.

QUARTERBACKS (4)

Joe Burrow (6), Desmond Ridder (4), Jake Browning (3), Payton Thorne (R).

Talk about offensive consistency. Burrow and Browning go to the 53 for a third straight Labor Day as a tandem. With his 18 starts and eight wins, Ridder is set to become one of the league's more experienced practice squad quarterbacks.

WIDE RECEIVERS (12)

With Tinsley not playing against the Colts, that would seem to suggest, at least as of Saturday, that they're going to keep three receivers behind the Big Three: Jones, Burton, and Tinsley, and not go with five receivers and five tight ends.

The only questions seem to be if Burton (knee) is healthy enough to be active for the Sept 7 opener in Cleveland, and if Burton is healthy, is he or Tinsley active? A healthy Burton would probably go because of his return abilities.

Williams had a heck of a camp. Talk about a tough room.

RUNNING BACKS (6)

Brooks had the DNP Saturday, giving them the trio of the rookie, Brown, and Perine. We love the '09 undefeated AFC North champ Bengals. Different types of players, but remember the deep three of the bell-cow Cedric Benson, the do-it-all vet Brian Leonard, and the rookie sixth-rounder Bernard Scott?

Milton looks to be a solid pro in the making, but it's a tight fit at a position where they usually keep three.

TIGHT ENDS (7)

All looks headed to injured reserve. McLachlan took 77% of Saturday's snaps. Could they keep the remaining five?

Certainly, Gesicki, Fant and Sample are in. Hudson just shows up and catches the ball in a passing offense. And he didn't play Saturday, which can be a good sign. Grandy, who played 18 snaps, provides blocking insurance behind Sample and plays special teams. He had another Pro Football Focus top-six overall blocking effort on the team Saturday.

Usually, the number here is four players. But it could be a position of flexibility in the potential flurry of moves coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

OFFENSIVE LINE (16)

PFF loves Rivers. On Monday night, he was the Bengals' highest-graded run blocker. On Saturday, he was their highest-graded pass blocker. It looks like they've got their two swing tackles and first two men off the bench in Rivers and Ford behind the five starters. That's seven. Usually, the number is nine.

Lee made his preseason debut Saturday after shoulder problems sidelined him much of camp, and was PFF's top run blocker on the line. He's the incumbent backup center, a spot the starting right guard Patrick can play in a pinch. Volson appears headed to injured reserve.

Some interesting decisions percolating around Cochran, a valued replacement last year in elimination games, and McLaughlin, one of the highest-rated college free agents who is finding his footing coming back from last season's Achilles' injury. The guard-tackle flexibility of Rivers and Ford would appear to give them some running room as the waiver wire hovers.

DEFENSIVE LINE (16)

Five edge rushers didn't play Saturday, which gives you a clue. Hendrickson, Ossai, Stewart, Murphy, Sample. That's usually the number. They love what Johnson flashed as a rookie last season. He's been hurt almost all of camp, so there are decisions to be made there.

At tackle, where they usually keep five, Hill returned to practice last week to team with Slaton for the Ones. They're raving about Jenkins' camp. Jackson, who played deep into Saturday's game, has the size they covet. And they're always looking for size here. Bryan and Gregory have the size, Cross has the coaches' attention (he was PFF's highest-graded defensive tackle Saturday), and who is on the wire?

LINEBACKERS (8)

Wilson, Burks, and Carter didn't play Saturday. Neither did Knight, out day-to-day. They usually keep five backers. That apparently leaves one spot for three guys who stepped it up against the Colts. Njongmeta led all tacklers with 11, Heyward was PFF's highest-graded Bengal against the run, and Giles-Harris was their No. 2 special teams player of the day on 17 snaps. Recency bias? Heyward was named a game captain on Saturday.

SECONDARY (17)

Anthony came up with what Taylor said appeared to be a hamstring injury on Saturday. But it was unclear what that means for the immediate roster at safety, where they usually keep four. The starters, Stone and Battle, didn't play, and neither did Anderson, their top teams player.

Whether the Anthony injury opens up the waiver wire or a closing run by Jules remains to be seen. Jules showed Saturday why they admire him as a physical and willing defender and special teamer. PFF graded him their highest-rated defensive back on special teams with two tackles and their fifth-best run defender with five tackles that gave him ten for the preseason.

They played only two of what appears to be their six top cornerbacks against the Colts at a position they usually keep six.. One, Wilson, was graded as PFF's top Bengals defender Saturday. The other, Ivey, came in fourth and finished tied with Giles-Harris as the preseason's top special teams tackler with three each.

Their longest-tenured defensive back, slot man Davis, continues to be valued and figures to be here in some capacity. Lux led the DBs with 63 snaps in a practice squad bid.

SPECIALISTS (4)

Everybody is saying the long-snapper battle is Even Steven. So do the numbers. Adomitis and Wagner each took four snaps Saturday. They each ended the preseason with two tackles. On Saturday, Wagner was graded PFF's top special teams player for the Bengals, Adomitis the third. On Monday in Washington, Adomitis was slightly ahead of Wagner.
