Five Observations from Day 18 of Bengals Training Camp

burrowB

1. One-Handed Charlie

Check out the one-handed touchdown grab by Charlie Jones.

"I'm going into every play thinking this is coming to me," Jones said. "Whether it's the first read or the last read. That's kind of been a shift in my mentality this year."

2. B.J. Hill Progressing

BJ Hill, who has been rehabbing a foot injury, took part in 11-on-11 reps for the first time with the opener 18 days away.

"I'll be ready for Cleveland," Hill said. "We've still got two weeks to get ready for it and some more practices to go through. I'll definitely be ready."

3. Shemar Blocks Burrow

Shemar Stewart had a batted pass that ricocheted all the way back to Joe Burrow. I predict that Shemar will finish top five in pass deflections this year.

"Those plays change games," defensive coordinator Al Golden said. "The trajectory of that ball — if it was 10 feet to the left, that's our ball."

4. Rivers Running with the Ones

With Lucas Patrick out day-to-day, Jalen Rivers took first team reps at right guard. The rookie allowed 1 QB pressure on 32 passing snaps at Washington (per PFF).

"I think he's getting more and more comfortable in that role as he's played more guard for us," head coach Zac Taylor said.

5. Burton is Back

Jermaine Burton appears fully recovered from the knee soreness that caused him to miss the second preseason game.

"We talked about his rookie year being a learning experience," wide receiver coach Troy Walters said. "I expect him to make a huge leap and have productive season."
