T.J. works; Carson looking

Wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh (ankle) stretched at the beginning of practice and then disappeared into the locker room Thursday, presumably for rehab, as the Bengals worked inside Paul Brown Stadium on the game field.

After practice he said he returned and ran about 20 to 25 routes but said there should be a decision later in the week.

Carson Palmer, out for Sunday, said he is still seeking medical opinions about his elbow and surgery is still on the table. He told a group of media at his locker that he heard some news from Mets doctor David Altchek on Monday that he didn't expect but he wouldn't elaborate.

Asked if he was discouraged, The Cincinnati Enquirer and Channel 19 reported Palmer said, "No. Just anxious."

"I'm obviously anxious to be able to play again, but just anxious to find out what I'm going to do," Palmer said.

Asked about Wednesday's comments by Houshmandzadeh and Chad Ocho Cinco advising him to shut it down for the year, Palmer said, "I haven't made up my mind on anything: Whether I'm going to play, not going to play, have surgery, not going to have surgery. I'm still waiting on more opinions."

The Bengals did get a host of starters back on the field Thursday after they missed Wednesday's workouts. Left tackle Levi Jones (back), running back Chris Perry (shoulder), tight end Ben Utecht (chest), middle linebacker Dhani Jones (foot) and cornerback Johnathan Joseph (ankle) were all in helmets.

Kicker Shayne Graham (groin) dressed and looked good going through vigorous running drills through ropes. He's going to try to kick Thursday, Marvin Lewis said, to see if he can go Sunday. Graham doesn't usually kick Fridays, but wouldn't say what his situation was after practice.

Kick returner Glenn Holt (ankle) was not working.
