Gabriel released

Posted: 2:20 p.m.

With three draft picks, the emergence of Marcus Maxwell and the steady work of Glenn Holt, the Bengals cut one of their most experienced wide receivers Thursday when they let go Doug Gabriel after the ninth voluntary session of the spring.

Gabriel, signed three weeks before last month's draft, has 101 career catches but didn't play last season after getting let go by two teams.

The Bengals did add another college free agent in Miami University cornerback Jerred Gaines. The 5-11, 189-pound Gaines was signed by Cleveland after the draft but cut earlier this month.

The Bengals ended the third week of workouts strapped at corner. Blue Adams and Ethan Kilmer are fighting injuries and Deltha O'Neal hasn't been attending.
