DiManche, Hocker among first Bengals cuts

Linebacker Jayson DiManche was one of 11 players cut Monday.

After cutting 11 players on a list headed by third-year linebacker Jayson DiManche on Monday, the Bengals still need to make a move with four players to get down to the roster maximum of 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m.

That probably includes a flurry of transactions to season-ending injured reserve and the physically unable to perform list (PUP), where players who haven't participated in training camp because of an injury are eligible to practice in the seventh week of the season.

Candidates staring at injured reserve are special teams co-captain Cedric Peerman (fractured forearm) and fourth-round draft pick Andrew Billings (surgically-repaired meniscus) and defensive tackle Brandon Thompson (ACL) has been expected to go on PUP at some point.

When first-round pick William Jackson suffered a torn pectoral the first week of training camp, head coach Marvin Lewis said there was a possibility he could be the player designated for injured reserve-return in midseason. But that player has to make the final 53-man roster on Saturday and then moved to IR at some point, most likely Sunday.

Depending on the severity of his fracture, Peerman is also a candidate for IR-return, or if they think it's a six-week injury they could carry him on the 53. But they have decide if Jackson, a cornerback, can get back quicker than the other injured players, which is probably why they're waiting as long as possible to make the moves.

Among the players cut was DiManche, the only undrafted free agent to make the Bengals roster in 2013. He was second on the team with 12 special teams tackles and blocked a punt. The next season he played in 12 games before suffering a forearm fractur. Then he bounced to Kansas City and Cleveland in 2015 before landing in Cincinnati at the end of the season.

Also cut was second-year kicker Zach Hocker, who didn't get healthy until Sunday. Hocker, who injured the ankle of his plant foot early in camp, rotated tries with Mike Nugent in Jacksonville and hit one extra point.

A list of the cuts: WR Michael Bennett, LB Jayson DiManche, DE Jack Gangwish, WR Antwane Grant, LB Darien Harris, K Zach Hocker,  QB Joe Licata, FB Jeff Luc, TE John Peters, S Floyd Raven, CB Corey Tindal.
