Bengals, Bensons relate to Cyclones

Posted: 9:30 p.m.

Talk about Hard Knocks.

Industry sources said Wednesday that one of the toughest figures in pro hockey with Bengals ties is about to take up residency in Cincinnati.

Hans Benson, who has more than 1,000 career penalty minutes and more than 100 fights in five seasons, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Cyclones and plans to set up shop just down the river from second cousin and Bengals running back Cedric Benson at U.S. Bank Arena.

Hans Benson, 25, a forward from Menlo Park, Calif., is in the same town with Cedric for the first time. He  comes to the ECHL Cyclones as a rough-and-tumble veteran of the AHL. He had one assist last season for Springfield in 35 games to go along with 98 penalty minutes and 15 fights.

The Cyclones open the season Oct. 16 in Elmira.
