GEORGETOWN, Ky. _The Bengals agreed to terms Thursday with the man who could be their Opening Day free safety when second-round pick Lamont Thompson okayed a four-year deal.

The Bengals were waiting for the signed contract, but agent Mike Sullivan confirmed the verbal agreement and said his client was getting on a plane and headed from California to Georgetown College.

"He's going to be there Friday in time for the morning workout and he's very happy about that," Sullivan said.

"Football players want to play."

The two sides were stalemated Wednesday night, but Bengals vice president Paul Brown and Sullivan pounded out a contract Thursday morning. It appears the club made some moves in order to get Thompson, a Washington State product, into camp on time after he missed all of May's on-field workouts in a dispute over injury protection.
