Injury update: Henry could be done; Rivers not serious

Updated: 7:05 p.m.

Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry suffered a fractured left forearm Sunday during the 17-7 win over the Ravens, a tough injury that typically involves two bones and some require season-ending surgery to insert plates. Just go off what happened to Bengals safety Roy Williams when he suffered a similar injury last year and missed the rest of the season after injuring it again in his third game and undergoing surgery.

Yet that is all speculation at the moment. Henry said he's going to the doctor Monday morning, where there will be a more definitive call.

But the news sounded better on WILL linebacker Keith Rivers even though he hobbled out of the locker room on crutches with what he called a strained calf he injured covering a punt. He wouldn't rule out playing next week, but if he can't play it will probably only be for a couple of weeks.

Left guard Evan Mathis looks to be in the same boat after he hurt his ankle in a first-quarter pileup. It looks like he'll be back soon.

Henry got hurt making a 20-yard catch over the middle on a play that deprives the Bengals of their one deep threat besides Chad Ochocinco. Punt returner Quan Cosby lined up as the fourth receiver after Henry got hurt, but he's just 5-9 compared to Henry's 6-4. The 6-2 Jerome Simpson was drafted to replace Henry in the second round in '08 two weeks after Henry was cut, although he has yet to be active for a game this season.

"I caught the ball, I looked upfield. I tried to split the guys and turned toward the end zone," said Henry, who fell awkwardly. "I was about to get up and I felt my arm (hurt), and then I noticed it was broke."
