Jets Offense
New York entered 2025 with former Bears and Steelers QB Justin Fields under center. Fields has yet to throw an interception this season and has seven combined touchdowns (four passing and three rushing). He became the first quarterback since at least 1950 to have zero interceptions and zero wins in their first six starts of a season and was subsequently benched during Week 7 in favor of veteran signal caller Tyrod Taylor. Taylor has appeared in three games this season, throwing three touchdowns to three interceptions.
First-year head coach Aaron Glenn has yet to name a starter for Week 8 at Paycor Stadium.
"That's something that I want to continue to look at," Glenn said Monday. "I want to make sure I make the right decision. I don't want to make rash decisions, either. I just want to make sure when the decision is made, it will be the right one."
The passing offense has run through WR Garrett Wilson. Nearly 28% of the team's completions have gone to Wilson, who ranks 25th among receivers with 395 yards. The first-round pick from Ohio State missed last week with a knee sprain. Despite missing Week 7, Wilson still is tied for 13th among receivers with 52 targets.
WR Tyler Johnson led the team with 60 receiving yards in Week 7 without Wilson, while WR Josh Reynolds received nine targets. Rookie TE Mason Taylor is second on the team in targets (30), receptions (24) and yards (208) this season.
The Jets offense has been built around running the football. On top of Fields' ability to use his legs (first in QB rush yards), RB Breece Hall ranks in the top 20 in yards per carry (4.5) and yards after contact per carry (3.2) among backs with at least 25 carries. Hall is the only player in the NFL with 50+ touches and zero touchdowns. New York RB Braelon Allen is out for the next eight to 12 weeks with a knee injury.
New York's offensive line has given up the most sacks in the NFL through seven games, allowing Taylor and Fields to be sacked a combined 31 times. Fields has faced 84 dropbacks under pressure in six games, a top 10 figure, while Taylor has faced 43 in three games played, per Pro Football Focus.
Jets Defense
New York has allowed 26.1 points per game this season, the seventh most in the NFL. The defense has given up just 13 points in back-to-back games against the Broncos and Panthers, respectively. The defense has also just forced one turnover, a forced fumble and recovery in Week 6 against Denver. As a result, the Jets rank last in turnover differential at minus nine.
The Jets' defense has compiled 10 sacks so far this season, tied for the second-fewest in the league. DT Quinnen Williams has posted the highest run-defense grade among all interior defenders in the NFL (91.2), per PFF. He has also provided 17 QB pressures in the pass game. The Jets as a unit rank bottom-10 in yards allowed per game on the ground, giving up 129.3 rushing yards per contest.
In the secondary, New York has allowed 197.1 passing yards per game, the ninth-fewest in the NFL. Despite not recording an interception yet this season, CB Sauce Gardner has performed well so far, ranking 22nd among corners with at least 25 snaps in PFF defensive grade (71.3).
Gardner has matched up with Bengals wideouts Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins once, a 2022 27-12 Bengals victory in New York. He allowed two receptions to Higgins for 51 yards on three targets and gave up zero receptions on one target to Chase. The Jets brought in CB Brandon Stephens on the other side of Gardner, who has allowed 19 receptions on 29 targets and three touchdowns in coverage so far this season and had two passes defensed last week against Carolina.
What to Watch For

Taylor on Verge of 50th Regular-Season Win
Zac Taylor enters Sunday with 49 regular-season victories as the Bengals' head coach. He has the chance to join former head coaches Paul Brown, Sam Wyche and Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati's 50-win club.
Taylor's first career win as a head coach coincidentally came against the Jets, as he led the Bengals to a 22-6 victory over New York in Week 13 of the 2019 season. He steered Cincinnati to 40 regular-season wins from 2021-24, the second-most over a four-year period in team history behind 43 wins from 2012-15.
Also coincidentally, Wyche picked up his 50th regular-season win against the Jets when his Bengals beat New York 25-20 on Sept. 9, 1990.
Higgins Approaching 5K Yards
Wide receiver Tee Higgins heads into Week 8 with 4,911 career receiving yards in 77 regular-season games played. Should he record 89 yards against New York in his 78th game, he would become the fifth-fastest player in team history to reach 5,000. The only Cincinnati players to hit that milestone in fewer games are Ja’Marr Chase (58 games), A.J. Green (63), Chad Johnson (70) and Cris Collinsworth (71).
Higgins is coming off his top statistical performance of the season in last Thursday night's home win over Pittsburgh. He caught six passes for a season-best 96 yards and a touchdown and put the Bengals in position for the game-winning field goal when he slid ahead of the goal line to let time run off late in the fourth quarter.
Higgins has a chance to become one of 32 active NFL players with 5,000 receiving yards in their career. In his previous two career games against the Jets, he has nine catches for 190 yards, a 95-yard average.
Battle Among INT Leaders
Jordan Battle’s three interceptions through the first seven weeks of the season are tied for third-most in the NFL. He trails Chicago safety Kevin Byard and Jacksonville linebacker Devin Lloyd, who have four apiece.
Battle notched his third pick of the year in Week 7 against Pittsburgh, coming down with a deep ball thrown by Aaron Rodgers. The play set up Cincinnati's go-ahead touchdown drive in the second quarter.
With another interception on Sunday, Battle would be the first Bengals player to log four picks within the team's first eight games of a season since former safety Vonn Bell in 2022.
Rookie LBs Pile Up The Stops
Cincinnati was the only team in the NFL to start two rookie linebackers in Week 7, as second-round draft pick Demetrius Knight Jr. and fourth-rounder Barrett Carter lined up alongside veteran Logan Wilson to kick off last Thursday's contest against Pittsburgh.
Knight, who has started six of seven games this season, leads all rookies across the league with 29 solo tackles. His 50 total tackles rank second among rookies and are tied for the Bengals team lead. Carter is tied for eighth among rookies with 36 total stops. Cincinnati is one of three teams with two players ranking inside the top 10 for rookie tacklers, alongside Baltimore and Philadelphia.
Extra Points
- Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has 51 career receiving touchdowns, two shy of tying Isaac Curtis (53) for fourth-most in Bengals history.
- Kicker Evan McPherson has accounted for 489 points in his career, 11 shy of 500.
- Defensive end Trey Hendrickson has 61 sacks as a member of the Bengals (2021-present), 1.5 shy of tying former linebacker Reggie Williams (62.5) for fourth-most in team history.
- Punter Ryan Rehkow has 36 career punts downed inside the opponent's 20-yard line, the sixth-most by a Bengal since the statistic began being tracked in 1976. He is one shy of tying former punter Nick Harris (37) for fifth-most.
