The Bengals return from the bye looking to earn a pivotal road win when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Acrisure Stadium.
The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on CBS (Cincinnati’s channel 12). Here is what to watch for:
Encore for Battle of the Ages
Sunday marks the second matchup this season between the Bengals quarterbacked by Joe Flacco and the Steelers led by Aaron Rodgers. At 40 years of age, Flacco is the oldest quarterback to start a game in Bengals history, and this week he is set to make his 200th career regular-season start. At 41, Rodgers is the oldest quarterback to ever face Cincinnati.
In their first meeting this season, a Thursday night offensive explosion at Paycor Stadium in Week 7, Flacco and Rodgers shined under the prime-time lights. Flacco, who was making his second start for Cincinnati after being acquired in a trade just nine days earlier, passed for 342 yards and three touchdowns with no turnovers, good for a passer rating of 108.6. Rodgers had season highs in passing yards (249) and touchdowns (four), but the Bengals picked him off twice in the second quarter to turn the game's momentum.
Flacco and Rodgers' combined seven passing touchdowns in Week 7 were the most in NFL history in a game that featured two quarterbacks over the age of 40.
From his first Bengals start in Week 6 through his most recent appearance in Week 9, Flacco led the NFL in passing attempts (173), completions (112), passing yards (1,254) and TD passes (11), while being intercepted just twice in that span. On Sunday, he will become the 18th quarterback in league history to start 200 games.
Chasing More Milestones
Ja’Marr Chase, who leads the NFL this season with 76 receptions and ranks second with 831 receiving yards, has a chance to place himself in historic company on Sunday, which has become a near weekly occurrence for the All-Pro talent.
Chase enters Week 11 with 6,256 receiving yards in his career. With 91 more against the Steelers, he would surpass both Dallas receiver CeeDee Lamb (6,339) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice (6,346) for the fourth-most in a player's first five seasons in NFL history. Minnesota standout Justin Jefferson (7,432), former St. Louis Rams Pro Bowler Torry Holt (6,784) and Hall of Famer Randy Moss (6,743) hold the top three receiving yardage totals in a player's first five years.
Chase also heads into Sunday with 51 career receiving touchdowns. Should he grab two touchdown catches, he would tie Bengals Ring of Honor member Isaac Curtis (53) for the fourth-most in team history. Chase has one multi-touchdown game already this season, finding the end zone twice in Week 5 against Detroit.
Brown Aims For Century Mark Again
Bengals halfback Chase Brown has totaled 100 or more yards from scrimmage in each of the last three games, with 100 in Week 7 against Pittsburgh, 105 in Week 8 against the Jets and a season-high 112 in Week 9 versus Chicago. His 317 scrimmage yards over those three weeks were the fourth-most among all NFL running backs.
Brown has a chance to hit the century mark in scrimmage yards in four consecutive games for the second time in his career. He compiled a five-game streak from Weeks 11-16 last season. He has found success against the Steelers in his young career, posting exactly 100 yards from scrimmage in each of his last two matchups against Pittsburgh. His 108 rushing yards in the Week 7 win were his most this season and second-most in his career.
Extra Points
- Zac Taylor enters Sunday with 49 regular-season wins as the Bengals' head coach and will have a chance to join former head coaches Paul Brown, Sam Wyche and Marvin Lewis in Cincinnati's 50-win club.
- Evan McPherson has 186 career made extra points, which is three shy of Horst Muhlmann (189) for fifth in Bengals history.
- Tee Higgins (six receiving touchdowns) and Ja’Marr Chase (five) have combined for 11 scoring receptions this season, the second-most by any duo in the NFL behind the L.A. Rams' 13 touchdowns split by Davante Adams (nine) and Puka Nacua (four).
