The Bengals made a roster move Thursday before practice that did not do much to ease the logjam with the numbers in the secondary. When the Bengals reached an injury settlement with cornerback Sojourn Shelton, it left them with eight cornerbacks and 15 defensive backs at a spot they want to head into the regular season with probably six and ten, respectively. Depending on rookie corner Davontae Harris' knee injury, you wonder if that spot is already spoken for with the three starters (Dre Kirkpatrick, William Jackson Darqueze Dennard), a veteran backup (KeiVarare Russell) and the two fifth-rounders (Harris and Darius Phillips). But they also like Tony McRae in the slot and C.J. Tough break for Shelton, who looks like he's got maybe more than a good month before he returns from torn wrist ligaments suffered in the first hours of training camp. There were hopes for him to make it this year after he spent 13 weeks on the practice squad last year. He arrived to the club on the practice squad after Arizona released him in the final cut.
