Packers Offense
QB Jordan Love ranks in the top 10 in passing yards per game, throwing for 250.0 yards per contest. Despite having a bye, he is also in the top 10 in passing touchdowns with eight. Love has thrown 11 interceptions each of the last two seasons, but he's been intercepted just once so far this year.
Love has pushed the ball downfield as well, with an average depth of target of 8.1 yards per attempt, ranking 17th among quarterbacks with at least 20 dropbacks. The former first-round pick has excelled throwing intermediate routes, completing 16-of-21 passes between 10-19 yards for five touchdowns and zero interceptions. His 81.0% adjusted completion percentage (completion percentage when accounting for drops) on intermediate passes ranks as the third highest in the NFL among quarterbacks who have thrown at least five such passes.
Three of Love's touchdowns have come off play action, per PFF. The run game plays a role in that. RB Josh Jacobs currently ranks 11th in the NFL with 66.5 yards per game, but he's averaging just 3.3 yards per attempt. For his career, the former Raider has averaged 4.2 yards per carry. While his yards per carry doesn't jump off the stat sheet, PFF sees more, as Jacobs has a 76.4 rush grade, the 14th-highest among all backs. In Week 3 against the Browns, Jacobs became the third player in Green Bay history to have 85+ rushing yards, 70+ receiving yards and multiple rushing touchdowns in the same game.
The Packers selected WR Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The rookie from Texas is currently tied with Jacobs for fourth on the team in targets with 14 and is third on the team with 11 receptions. TE Tucker Kraft paces Green Bay in both categories and is tied with Raiders TE Brock Bowers for the seventh-most receiving yards at the position (225). Kraft also ranks third in the NFL in yards per reception (14.1) among tight ends with at least 10 receptions.
The Packers leading receiver last season, Jayden Reed, is on injured reserve with a foot injury. WR Romeo Doubs had three receiving touchdowns in Week 4 against the Cowboys, becoming one of three Packers to have three+ receiving touchdowns against Dallas, joining Sterling Sharpe and Christian Watson.
Green Bay's offensive line has struggled a bit early on this season in pass protection, allowing Love to be pressured on 40.7% of his dropbacks. The Packers have posted a 51.7 PFF pass-block grade so far this season, ranking 26th in the league.
However, two starters, right tackle Zach Tom and left guard Aaron Banks, returned to practice Monday. Tom has played just 31 snaps this season, while Banks has played 73.
The Green Bay offense currently holds the best third-down conversion percentage in the NFL (53.7%). The unit also ranks second in the NFL in yards per game on third down (97.3) and third in yards per play on third down (7.1).
Packers Defense
The Packers made a splash on the defensive side of the ball just before the season started, trading for star edge rusher Micah Parsons. The former Cowboy has registered at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons, one of just two players to do that, joining Hall of Famer Reggie White. The three-time Associated Press All-Pro selection has the second-highest PFF defensive grade among all edge rushers so far this season, trailing only Lions DE Aidan Hutchinson, and has the fifth-most pressures generated with 25. DE Rashan Gary has registered 4.5 sacks so far this season, tied for the seventh-most in the league.
As an overall unit, the Packers have posted the fourth-highest PFF defensive grade in the NFL (79.0). They've allowed the fourth-fewest yards per game (283.3) and the 11th-fewest points per game (21.0). They are coming off an overtime tie with the Cowboys where they allowed 40 points.
Green Bay has been especially impressive against the run, allowing 77.5 rushing yards per game, the second fewest in the NFL. The unit has allowed 3.6 yards per carry as well, the fifth fewest. Its best interior defender, DT Devonte Wyatt, injured his knee in Dallas in Week 4 and is currently considered week-to-week.
Despite allowing 319 yards to Dak Prescott in Week 4, the Packers have given up the 11th-fewest passing yards per game this season (205.8). The defensive unit has not been as opportunistic as it was last season though: Green Bay has forced two turnovers through four games after forcing 31 last season. CB Keisean Nixon is tied for second in the league with seven passes defensed.
The Bengals travel to Lambeau Field for the first time in eight years. Green Bay is 2-0 at home so far this season, scoring 27.0 points per game and allowing 15.5 points per game. Since 2024, the Packers rank second in the NFL in points allowed at home (16.6), trailing only the Denver Broncos (13.4), and have allowed 24 or fewer points in nine straight home games, the longest active streak in the NFL.
What to Watch For
By: Ben Savarick
Flacco's Debut Comes Against Familiar Foe
The Bengals acquired veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in a trade with Cleveland on Tuesday, adding an experienced signal caller to the Cincinnati offense. Flacco started the first four games of this season for the Browns and threw for 815 yards, then did not see action in their fifth contest as Dillon Gabriel made his NFL debut.
Zac Taylor confirmed on Wednesday that Flacco will start for the Bengals this week at Lambeau, just five days after his acquisition.
"Joe is an experienced quarterback with a history of winning," Taylor said. "He is a leader with a skill set that will fit our personnel well. He is a gifted passer with a strong arm, and we are excited to have him on our team."
Flacco already has seen the Green Bay defense once this season, as he faced the unit in the Browns' Week 3 win over the Packers in Cleveland. He completed 21 of 36 passes for 142 yards with an interception in that game, and led a late five-play drive to set up a game-winning field goal to hand the Packers their first loss.
Green Bay is holding opponents to just 283.3 net yards per game this season, the fourth-best average by any NFL defense. However, after holding their first three opponents to under 250 yards, the Packers yielded 436 in their most recent matchup at Dallas in Week 4. Green Bay is coming off a bye in Week 5.
Ja'Marr Chasing 50th TD
With two touchdown catches last week against Detroit, Ja’Marr Chase boosted his career receiving TD total to 49. Should he get his 50th scoring reception on Sunday in what will be his 68th career regular-season game, he would become the seventh-fastest player in NFL history to reach the milestone.
Chase's 49 touchdown catches are the most in the NFL since the start of his 2021 rookie season, four ahead of Tampa Bay's Mike Evans (45). He has logged at least seven receiving
TDs in each of his first four seasons, including a league-leading 17 last year which tied the Bengals single-season record originally set by Carl Pickens in 1995.
In his only previous game against Green Bay, which came in Week 5 of the 2021 season in Cincinnati, Chase caught six passes for 159 yards with a 70-yard touchdown just before halftime.
Hendrickson Continues Climbing Bengals' Sack Leaderboard
Trey Hendrickson’s team-leading four sacks this season have improved his total as a member of the Bengals to 61. The 2021 free agent acquisition enters this week just 1.5 sacks shy of tying former linebacker Reggie Williams (62.5) for fourth in Bengals history.
Hendrickson's 61 sacks since the start of the 2021 campaign rank third in the NFL behind Cleveland's Myles Garrett (64) and Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt (61.5). His four sacks this year are tied for second in the AFC, and he is coming off a two-sack performance last week against the Lions.
Money Mac One Kick Away From 100
Evan McPherson enters Sunday with 99 made field goals in his career (regular season). With one against the Packers in what will be his 67th game, he would become the fifth-fastest kicker in Bengals history to reach 100 career field goals. The Cincinnati kickers to hit that mark in fewer games were Doug Pelfrey (59 games), Shayne Graham (62), Mike Nugent (62) and Horst Muhlmann (65).
McPherson is a perfect five-for-five on field goals and 10-for-10 on extra point attempts this season. He knocked through his longest kick of the season last week against Detroit, a 50-yarder as the first half clock expired. That boot was his 25th career made field goal from 50 or more yards, which already is the most in Bengals history and is tied for the sixth-most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2021.
Knight Racks Up the Stops
Five games into his career, rookie linebacker Demetrius Knight Jr. leads the Bengals this season in total tackles (39) and solo tackles (23). He currently is two tackles shy of Cleveland linebacker Carson Schwesinger (41) for the most among all rookies this year.
Knight has logged at least five tackles in every game, and he has reached double-digits on two occasions. He racked up 10 stops (eight solos) in the opener at Cleveland, then matched that total in Week 4 at Denver.
Extra Points
- Tight end Noah Fant is set to play in his 100th career game (regular season).
- The Bengals have several players and coaches who previously spent time in Green Bay's organization:
- Defensive tackle Mike Pennel entered the NFL as a college free agent signee with Green Bay in 2014 and spent his first three career seasons (2014-16) playing for the Packers.
- Linebacker Oren Burks was a third-round draft pick of Green Bay in 2018 and played for the Packers from 2018-21.
- Defensive tackle T.J. Slaton Jr. was a Packers fifth-round pick in 2021 and spent his first four seasons (2021-24) in Green Bay.
- Defensive line coach/run game coordinator Jerry Montgomery spent nine seasons (2015-23) on Green Bay's coaching staff, serving as defensive front assistant from 2015-17 and defensive line coach from 2018-23.
