Davis Koetter is in his first season with the Bengals and first on an NFL coaching staff in 2026. He serves as assistant wide receivers coach for Cincinnati.
Koetter spent the 2025 season at the University of South Carolina, where he served as assistant quarterbacks coach. He worked with sophomore QB LaNorris Sellers, who ranked 10th in the Southeastern Conference in passing yards (2437) and passer rating (139.8), while also rushing for 270 yards and five TDs.
Koetter spent the previous two seasons at the University of Texas, where he served as an offensive analyst with a focus on tight ends in 2024 and as a graduate assistant with a focus on QBs in '23. In 2024, he helped guide TE Gunnar Helm to a breakout campaign, as the senior led all SEC tight ends in receptions (60) and receiving yards (786) to earn second-team All-SEC honors. Helm went on to be selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. Koetter helped scheme a Texas offense which ranked fourth in the SEC in total yards per game (437.5) and points per game (33.0), spearheading a Longhorns team that finished 13-3 and advanced to the College Football Playoff semifinal.
In 2023, Koetter's first season in a coaching role, he worked with QB Quinn Ewers, who passed for a career-high 3479 yards on a 69.0 completion percentage (both ranked second in the Big 12 Conference). Ewers threw for 300 or more yards in six games, helping lead Texas to a 12-2 final record, a Big 12 title and an appearance in the CFP semifinal.
As a player, Koetter began his collegiate career at Portland State University (2018-19), before spending his final two seasons ('21-22) at Boise State University. He originally played QB at Portland State, then moved to WR during his redshirt freshman season in 2018. In 22 games played with 10 starts at Portland State, he caught 42 passes for 748 yards and 10 TDs, and in 2019 he earned Academic All-Big Sky Conference honors. He then played in 23 contests with six starts at Boise State, totaling 28 receptions for 381 yards and two TDs.
His father, Dirk, has spent the past 41 years as a coach in the NFL and college ranks, including three seasons (2016-18) as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Dirk Koetter currently serves as a senior analyst at Boise State.
Koetter was born on Sept. 11, 1998 in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from Portland State in 2020 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, then received his master's degree in athletic leadership from Boise State in '22. He and his wife, Callan, have a son, Colt, and live in Cincinnati.
