After Tuesday night's tuneup, the Bengals officially installed Joe Burrow as their Thanksgiving Night quarterback (8:20-Cincinnati’s Channel 5) when they activated him from injured reserve Wednesday before departing for Baltimore.
A holiday weekend's Must See TV has been brewing all month. Burrow had his eye on this game when he returned to practice three weeks ago from a turf toe injury as the Bengals play their first Thanksgiving game in 15 years against fellow Pro Bowl quarterback Lamar Jackson and his red-hot AFC North co-leaders.
Something has to give.
Coming off a 75-day absence, Burrow is riding a seven-game winning streak with his last loss coming virtually a year ago on Dec. 1. Baltimore has won five straight after opening the season 1-5 and has caught the Steelers atop the division at 6-5.
"The winning and the division championships that we've won are the most exciting things that we've done," said Burrow before practice Tuesday. "But whenever you have an opportunity like this against a divisional opponent that's won five straight and you're playing on a Thursday night in front of the world. That's an exciting opportunity. "
The Bengals are playing their second Thanksgiving game. Burrow can't remember the one played in for LSU, but this start clearly means a lot to him.
"Just like a lot of kids, you grow up going through Thanksgiving, you have your meals with your family and then you go and sit on the couch, and typically, there's not a lot on except football," Burrow said. "Back in the day, it was Lions and somebody. You go watch Matthew Stafford throw for 300, 400-something yards with Calvin Johnson and probably lose the game, but it was fun to watch. Those are memories that you have, so I always wanted to kind to be the person out there. "
