Bengals Fall to Lions 37-24 | POSTGAME RECAP, NOTES & QUOTES

Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase scored touchdowns within three minutes of each other early in the fourth quarter Sunday at Paycor Stadium, and quarterback Jake Browning pumped three fourth-quarter touchdown passes, but it wasn't enough to catch the Lions' No. 1 scoring offense in Detroit's 37-24 victory.

The Bengals attempted an onside kick with 2:57 left after Browning's two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tee Higgins cut it to 11 points, but the Lions recovered. After punting, Lions linebacker Derrick Barnes sacked Browning for a safety to seal it with 1:54 left.

Barnes, from Covington, Ky., joined with Lions veteran running back David Montgomery for quite a homecoming. Montgomery, a dual-threat quarterback at nearby Mount Healthy High School, returned home for the first time in his 93-game NFL career to throw for a touchdown and run for another.

Lions quarterback Jared Goff's offense parlayed short fields generated by Browning's three interceptions.

NOTES

Trey Strip-Sacks Goff in First Quarter

Trey Hendrickson got around the edge and forced a Goff fumble as the Lions were driving inside Cincinnati territory late in the opening quarter. The loose ball was recovered by Logan Wilson at the Bengals' 28-yard line for the game's first turnover.

Hendrickson notched his first forced fumble of the season on the play, and his 12th since joining the Bengals in the 2021 offseason. That total is tied for the third-most in the NFL in that span. He finished Sunday with two sacks and now is up to four on the season.

Uno Double Dips

On the first play of the fourth quarter, Browning rolled to his right and fired a pass to the corner of the end zone which Ja'Marr Chase caught while keeping his feet in bounds for a touchdown. It was Chase's first TD since Week 2 against Jacksonville.

On third-and-15 later in the fourth quarter, Browning launched a deep ball that hit Chase in stride for a 64-yard touchdown. It marked Chase's 13th career touchdown reception of 60 or more yards, which extends his Bengals record and is the most by any player in the NFL since the start of the 2021 season.

Chase now has 11 career games with multiple receiving touchdowns. Sunday also marked his 21st career game with 100 or more receiving yards, which broke a tie with Isaac Curtis for the third-most such games in Bengals history.

Money Mac Drills 50-Yarder at First Half Buzzer

The Bengals began their final possession of the first half at their own eight-yard line with 3:47 remaining, and drove 65 yards in 10 plays to get in range for an Evan McPherson field goal attempt. McPherson knocked through a 50-yard kick as time expired, cutting Cincinnati's deficit to 14-3 at the break.

McPherson now has 25 career field goals from 50 or more yards, the most in Bengals history and tied for the sixth-most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2021.

QUOTES

"There's a lot to correct on film. It's just one of those things — we have a resilient group, so we're finding that team identity. There's a lot to be proud of on defense and there's a lot we need to correct on defense. Keep chopping wood, it'll break. It's the National Football League. Hard work works. I'm a firm believer in that." - Defensive End Trey Hendrickson, on how the defense will move forward
