Fantasy Recap: Week 2

[internal-link-placeholder-0]

James Morris hails from Rio Rancho, NM and has been playing fantasy sports for just over 15 years. Not only does he write the Bengals fantasy section, but he also does the Miami Dolphins fantasy section. Crossing over, Morris writes the fantasy sections for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. Just send him an email and he will reply back the same day with your answer. Or, find him on Twitter (Fantasyguy23) and get all your NFL news before it hits the national media. *

Week 2 of the NFL season was no less hectic than Week 1 for fantasy owners, as some stars shined while others fizzled out. One of the hardest things to do is predict that Dez Bryant would stumble his way to just 3 catches for 17 yards, while Brent Celek would rack up 8 catches for 157 yards! Nobody is right 100 percent of the time, but I still maintain that Celek isn't a starting fantasy TE, and would certainly let someone else make that waiver wire claim this week.

WINNERS

Eli Manning – QB, Giants: Eli had an amazing game on Sunday as he threw for 510 yards and 3 TDs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense. Yes, he threw 3 INTs also, but the yards and TDs are more than enough to give him the No. 1 spot in fantasy football this week.

Andy Dalton – QB, Bengals: Dalton and the Bengals are largely dismissed by anyone outside of the state of Ohio. However, the young QB has shown that he can put up stats and lead his team, and that is just what he did against the Browns. Dalton finished with a very respectable 318 yards passing, 3 TDs and 1 INT.

C.J. Spiller – RB, Bills: When you look up waiver wire gold in the dictionary, Spiller will be pictured with a Coke, a Klondike bar and a smile. He finished the game with 123 rushing yards, 47 receiving yards and 2 TDs. If you were quick enough to get him off the wire, you got a starting RB for practically nothing.

Reggie Bush – RB, Dolphins: I put Bush as a starter in both my Dolphins and Bengals articles this week, and the man didn't disappoint! Bush finished with an astounding 172 yards rushing, 25 yards receiving and 2 TDs in Week 2. Maybe now we can put to rest the theory that Bush can't be a featured RB in the NFL.

Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz – WRs, Giants: Nicks was questionable heading into the game, but finished with an incredible 10 catches for 199 yards and 1 TD. Cruz hauled in 11 passes of his own for 179 yards and another TD. This is not going to happen again this season, so just accept it and enjoy it while you can Giants fans.

Danny Amendola – WR, Rams: Someone asked me if they should start Amendola this weekend and I asked why he is even on his team. I guess the fantasy gods heard me and were not pleased as Amen finished with 15 catches for 160 yards and a TD in Week 2. Look, this will NEVER happen again in this man's career, so sell high on him this week if you can find a taker.

Vernon Davis – TE, 49ers: Vernon Davis has long been one of the most gifted athletes in the NFL, but his QB has been keeping him from being a fantasy factor. This week he found his groove with Alex Smith and was able to haul in 5 passes for 73 yards and 2 TDs. I don't trust the 49ers offense to continue clicking over the course of a season, so enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Buffalo Bills Defense: The Bills didn't hold the Chiefs to the fewest points (17) in Week 2, but they did manage to put up 5 sacks, 2 recovered fumbles, an INT and a return TD. The Bills defense is owned in just 14.9 percent of NFL.com leagues, and this was probably the best week they will have all season long. So, don't go running to the waiver wire and snatching them up just yet.

LOSERS

Jay Cutler – QB, Bears: Anyone who has been following my articles knows of Chris Da Bears Fan. After Thursday night's loss to the Packers, in which they also lost Matt Forte to a high ankle sprain, we had to put Chris on suicide watch because of Cutler playing pitch 'n catch with the defense. He finished the game with just 126 yards passing (11-for-27 passing), 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions.

Matt Schaub – QB, Texans: There is a reason why I don't rank Schaub in my top 15 for fantasy QBs, because he doesn't have weapons outside of Andre Johnson. Schaub managed to finish with just 195 yards passing and no TDs in a game the team won easily against the porous Jaguars defense. He can be an OK bye week filler at QB, but I'd rather roll the dice with Dalton myself.

Jamaal Charles – RB, Chiefs: Charles certainly wasn't in charge of this one, as he rushed just 6 times for a pathetic 3 yards. He was able to add 3 catches for 19 yards, but the effort was just pathetic when you look across the box score and see Spiller's line.

Matt Forte – RB, Bears: I felt so bad for Chris, but the hits just keep on coming for the Bears. Forte is going to miss a few weeks, and his fantasy owners will have to deal with his 31 yards rushing and 49 yards receiving in Week 2. If you own Forte, I hope you have good depth at the RB spot for the next month.

Kevin Ogletree – WR, Cowboys: I told you to sell high on him. Did you? The Cowboys WR3 finished with just a single catch for 26 yards against an underrated Seahawks defense. You are unlikely to get a plug-nickel for Ogletree at this point, so just let him rot on your bench until he catches lightning in a bottle again and try to flip him then.

Justin Blackmon – WR, Jaguars: The Texans have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but that is no excuse for an opposing team to throw for a total of 76 yards on just 21 passing attempts. As a result, Blackmon apparently got mistaken for a blackout as he finished with no catches on the day. There is a reason why I have him ranked outside the top 50 fantasy WRs.

Aaron Hernandez – TE, Patriots: Hernandez had to be helped off the field in the first quarter of the game, and failed to register a single catch. Word is that he will miss up to six weeks with a dreaded high ankle sprain, so you better go grab someone off the waiver wire right now if your TE1 is Hernandez!

New York Jets Defense: The Jets defense is owned in virtually all NFL.com leagues (94.4 percent), and started in 84.3 percent. That means a lot of owners got burned this week as the Jets allowed 27 points to the Steelers, and managed to get just 3 sacks to help soften the blow for fantasy owners.
