BENGALS QB CARSON PALMER SAYS: “It’s a great pick for us. I especially love the way he produced in big games.”

SHIPLEY ON BEING COMPARED TO WES WELKER: “That’s a player I’ve been watching for a long time, and why would I mind being compared to Wes Welker? It’s a compliment, because you’re talking about a guy that’s as productive as anybody in the NFL.”

COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS: CAREER—Played four seasons (2006-09) at Texas, appearing in all 53 games with 35 starts … Entered the program in 2004, but did not play in ’04 due to knee injury and in ’05 due to hamstring injury … His 248 receptions topped the Texas-record 241 by Roy Williams (2000-03), and he had 205 of those catches over his last two seasons … His three TDs on punt returns tied school record … In addition to his standout special teams work as a returner, he was the holder for field goals and PATs. 2009—Set UT season records for receptions (116) and receiving yards (1485), and tied for first in TD catches (13) … Named first-team All-American by Associated Press and Sporting News and was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award (nation’s top WR) … Played the first six games at flanker (slot receiver) and shifted to split end for remainder of year … Closed career with 10 catches for 122 yards and two TDs against Alabama in national championship game, despite Longhorns’ loss of No. 1 QB Colt McCoy to first-quarter injury … Had six games of 10 or more catches and seven games of 100 or more yards, including school-record 273 yards vs. Central Florida … Averaged 13.0 yards on 24 punt returns, including two for TDs. 2008—Third-team All-America pick by Associated Press, starting all 13 games at flanker … His 89 catches included a school-record 15 vs. Oklahoma State … His 96-yard kickoff return TD rallied Texas from early 14-3 deficit in crucial win over Oklahoma … Set school record with at least one TD catch in each of team’s first eight games. 2007—Played 13 games, with seven starts at flanker … Ranked fourth on team in receptions (27), gaining 417 yards with five TDs. 2006—Played 13 games with one start in his first active season in three years in the program … Earned UT’s Frank Medina Rehabilitation Award, as he came back from missing entire 2005 campaign due to hamstring injury … Began his career-long assignment as UT’s holder for placekicks.

COACH MIKE SHEPPARD SAYS: “Jordan proved himself to be a consistent, solid target against a high level of competition. His strength would be inside, filling the role that T.J. Houshmandzadeh had when he was here. He’ll be a great target for Carson (Palmer). It’s like Marvin (Lewis) has said. We’re trying to give Carson more weapons to work with, and in this case I think we’ve certainly given him a productive one.”
