When the Bengals slapped the second-round one-year tender offer on linebacker Emmanuel Lamur ($2.3 million), they were banking on that keeping him out of restricted free agency and it did when he signed the deal on Wednesday.

Lamur played his first season as a starter last year when he lined up at SAM backer and as he heads into his fourth season the Bengals are expecting him to take the next step in what has been a promising start for a college free agent out of Kansas State.

"Emmanuel is a player we see as still emerging," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in a news release. "He has a great blend of size and athleticism. We had him tabbed for a big role two years ago and an injury held him back, but he was full go last year and fulfilled our expectations. We believe the best is yet to come."

Although he struggled at times against the run last season, Lamur continues to be an effective cover man as one of the two linebackers in the nickel package.
