Scrutiny is mandatory for offense
Just the presence of the very large Cordy Glenn at left tackle at Tuesday's start of mandatory minicamp is evidence of the effort to shore up the offense since he arrived via trade for a first-rounder. But the hopes of a little-used role player also reflect how this offense may be changed by as much philosophy as looks. Remember Ryan Hewitt, the forgotten fullback?
Hobson's Choice: walking the line in the draft
Bengaldom hopes their team walked the line well in last week's NFL Draft. They went offensive line in the first round and then in the last round. Mississippi's Rod Taylor waited a long time to get picked, but he may have enough versatility to stay around longer than that.
Dalton eager to learn new offense
Andy Dalton and his Bengals return to Paul Brown Stadium Monday for voluntary off-season workouts and their quarterback hasn’t felt like this since he was a rookie. The unknown again excites him. All Dalton really knows is that he’s seen enough coaching changes to realize the Bengals offense is underdoing its biggest overhaul since he and offensive coordinator Jay Gruden arrived together in 2011.
New combo lines up at combine
INDIANAPOLIS - It’s an intriguing NFL scouting combine for the Bengals offensive line. For the first time in 38 years they’ve got a new line coach in Frank Pollack and a new offensive coordinator in Bill Lazor. Lazor has made it a point this this offseason to make sure the coordinator is on the same wavelength with the line coach, spending about eight hours with him here the last two days. Are they talking about Notre Dame tackle Mike McGlinchey?
Offense braces for biggest changes under Lewis
Andy Dalton left Wednesday’s power lunch with Marvin Lewis and Vontaze Burfict looking forward to what promises to be the biggest changes to the offense in the eight seasons he’s been the Bengals franchise quarterback and the 16 seasons Lewis has been head coach. But he’s glad Lewis is still around to break bread.
