Hobson's Choice: receivers on the mind
The roster scrum has begun and all eyes are on the hands at receiver, such as Josh Malone.
In pursuit of picks
Robert Livingston, the secondary coach in charge of the safeties, is in the process of emphasizing the Bengals' point of emphasis under new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. Turnovers. Livingston goes one better and punches it up on his rolling vista of a computer screen.
Hobson's Choice: something old, a lot new
Tough sledding for rookies like cornerback Davontae Harris (35) when it comes to a deep defensive depth chart, but like many of the draft picks he can make the club in the kicking game and play a lot on special teams.

The Bengals today signed three draft picks, including second-round S Jessie Bates, fourth-round HB Mark Walton and fifth-round CB Darius Phillips.
Slants and screens: Fejedelem sees no major impact from new kickoff; Offense seeks quick strikes
Hobson's Choice: walking the line in the draft
Bengaldom hopes their team walked the line well in last week's NFL Draft. They went offensive line in the first round and then in the last round. Mississippi's Rod Taylor waited a long time to get picked, but he may have enough versatility to stay around longer than that.
Mike steps to the mike
Michael Johnson hadn't even read Sam Hubbard's name yet and he was already teaching him how to be a pro.

Five things you need to know about the Bengals 2018 draft.
Shades of '12 draft gets defensive
It has kind of a whiff of 2012. The Bengals would love that, if this weekend's draft turned out like that one since it yielded six starters or regulars and doubled the standard of three for each draft. It was a big lift for the 2011 team's surprising play-off appearance and helped set the table for those five straight post-season runs. Like the '12 draft, this one was defined by trades.

Lippincott goes to other side of the aisle with Hubbard selection
Jim Lippincott, the Bengals' former director of football operations who scouted their prospects for 20 years, is now on the other side of the aisle after they selected Ohio State defensive end Sam Hubbard Friday night in the third round.
We haven't seen Teryl Austin much at all this offseason, his first as the Bengals defensive coordinator. But when he surfaced late Friday night in the media room with three of his position coaches from all three levels of his defense, it was a little bit clearer how he plans to take them to the next level.
