CARSON, Calif. - No surprise in this week’s inactive list lottery spun by Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis before Sunday’s game against the Chargers.
Left guard Clint Boling made his second straight start at left tackle for the injured Cordy Glenn (back), slot corner Darqueze Dennard took over for the injured Dre Kirkpatrick (ankle) in his first start on the outside and his seventh of the season and Hardy Nickerson came off the bench to make his fourth start of the year for the sidelined Vontaze Burfict (concussion).
Back-up wide receiver Josh Malone missed his fifth straight game and has yet to take a snap since A.J. Green got hurt, missing the best chance of his two seasons to play and contribute. That means another chance for rookie Auden Tate.
Also out because of injury is back-up slot corner Tony McRae (concussion). There’s a shot rookie cornerback Darius Phillips would make his first NFL start depending how the Chargers line up. Davontae Harris, the other fifth-round corner, was set to make his debut after coming off injured reserve last week with a knee issue.
Ruled out by the coaches were back-up tackle Cedric Ogbuehi and defensive end Kasem Edebali.
On Saturday the league announced that Burfict got his second big fine of the season for violating player safety rules stemming from lowering his helmet against Denver fullback Andy Janovich last week. The $53,482 (as reported by pro football talk.com) comes on top of the $112,000 he received for two plays against the Steelers on Oct. 14.
