The Bengals kicked off free agency Thursday with a “Rey-union,” when they re-signed middle linebacker Rey Maualuga to a three-year deal that keeps him in Cincinnati through his 30th birthday.
The Bengals are trying to wrap up a couple of deals before free agency opens next week in an attempt to keep their offensive line intact and begin the effort to shore up their linebackers corps.
The Bengals are hoping to keep a few of their own this season in free agency, like middle backer Rey Maualuga. The model for what they do this March might be what they did three years ago.
Everyone saw it coming, but it still didn’t make it any easier Friday when the Bengals released one of their more versatile players and valued leaders across the defensive front and around the locker room in 11-year veteran Robert Geathers.
