THE SERIES
Bengals lead, 6-5, 3-1 in Cincinnati, 1-0 at PBS

NOTEWORTHY
» The Bengals and Packers have played three times on Sept. 20 and Friday is the 21st anniversary of The Brett Favre Game at Lambeau Field. When Bengals nose tackle Tim Krumrie broke Don Majkowski's anke and Favre came off the bench to replace The Majic Man, he was something else and began his Hall of Fame career hitting someone named Kittrick Taylor in the last minute for a TD pass that lifted the Pack to 24-23 come-from-behind victory.

» The last time the Bengals and Packers met on Sept. 20 was in '09 and it was also at Lambeau, where the Bengals may have engineered the most important victory in head coach Marvin Lewis's tenure. Playing under the mushroom cloud of a stunning Opening Day loss the week before to Denver at PBS when a tipped 87-yard pass beat them with 11 seconds left, the Bengals won for the first time at Lambeau when defensive end Antwan Odom set a club record with five sacks of Aaron Rodgers to spur a 31-24 victory and an AFC North title run.

» Sept. 20, 1998 at Riverfront Stadium was a relatively comparable ho-hum tilt. Favre generated the only TD of the game, a 16-yarder to wide receiver Robert Brooks in Green Bay's 13-6 victory. Doug Pelfrey and Ryan Longwell each had two field goals.

» The day before his 55th birthday, Lewis goes against a Packers staff that has four assistants he coached: he had Packers safety coach Darren Perry and outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene in Pittsburgh, tight ends coach Jerry Fontenot in Cincinnati, and running backs coach Alex Van Pelt was his quarterback at the University of Pittsburgh.

» Lewis worked with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy at the University of Pittsburgh from 1990-1991 before moving to the Steelers the next season as a linebackers coach under current Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers.

» Lewis is still a spring chicken as the third-oldest coach in Bengals history. Paul Brown was 67 and Dick LeBeau 65 and all three are September birthdays: Brown on Sept. 7, 1908, LeBeau on Sept. 9, 1937, and Lewis on Sept. 23, 1958.

» The only time the Packers played at PBS, Favre suffered a career-high five interceptions on Oct. 30, 2005 in the Bengals 21-14 victory. With left end Robert Geathers on injured reserve, there's no one on the roster that played in that game. The only player left from either club is Favre's rookie backup, Aaron Rodgers.

GB: 2nd in scoring, 1st in offense (16th rushing, 2nd passing); 24th in scoring defense, 29th in defense (17th rushing, 30th passing), T-25th in turnover margin at minus-2.
