AP: Jordan Palmer hosting workouts

As quarterback Jordan Palmer promised before the NFL lockout descended last month, he's going to host the Bengals offense for workouts at his alma mater Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo, Calif.

Palmer told Cincinnati-based Associated Press reporter Joe Kay on Tuesday that most of the wide receivers, tight ends and running backs are going to be in next week. Wide receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens are not among them with Palmer telling Kay, "I think everybody's kind of assuming they're not going to be back."

Palmer probably wishes he knew as much about his own situation. His brother Carson has said he'll retire if he's not traded, but Jordan has said he doesn't know much about it and that he'll do what he always does and prepare like he'll start. The Bengals sound like they're preparing to draft one high next week, but even though Jordan's NFL experience is limited to 15 regular-season passes he isn't going to let that get in the way of getting out in front.

"I've got them staying in a hotel, got a trainer and everything set up for them," Palmer told the AP. "It should be good and take some steps in the right direction. It's my first thing, really, as a leader. I want to be the guy, so I'm just trying to do those things."

Known as one of the smarter guys on the club, he realizes next week's NFL draft is huge for everybody.

"A lot could change with my situation next week," he told Kay.
