Smith Reads to Students at Loveland Elementary

September 27, 2005 - Bengals defensive tackle Shaun Smith visited Loveland Elementary to take part in teacher Tammy Ruehrwein's 2nd grade Mystery Reader program.

Shaun read a book to the class who then discussed the core values at Loveland Primary. Students are expected to show care, respect and responsibility while at school. Shaun read the story The Tee Ball Game to the second-graders. He then talked about how he shows care, respect and responsibility in his job of being a Bengal.

Students were able to ask questions and have a "tiger ticket" drawing. Students earn tickets for showing care, respect and responsibility that go into a tub in the classroom. There are random prize drawings during thee month. Shaun drew out tickets that were eligible for prizes of wristbands and Bengals stickers. He really motivated the students to do well in school! Mystery Reader Program Summary Each month during the school year Ms. Ruehrwein is inviting a Mystery Reader into her classroom. The Mystery Reader will always read a story that correlates to the curriculum that the class is working on during that specific month. Students are given five clues during the month and try to guess who will visit. Previous Mystery Readers included Officer Barnes of the Loveland City Police, who visited when the class was learning about the roles of government.

The aim of the Mystery Reader Program is to encourage students to become more motivated readers and know how important reading is in so many aspects of life. The students will be able to relate the curriculum goals in every subject by participating in the Mystery Reader Program.
