Bengals big hit with youth in Jamaica

July 24, 2008 - It is well-know that the citizens of Jamaica enjoy and are thoroughly talented in the sport of "futbol;" Spanish term for soccer.

Year-round, the remote island is targeted as a top tourist vacation location. Well, The Rudi Johnson Foundation enlisted Rudi Johnson, T. J. Houshmanzadah and Eric Henderson of the Bengals to devote a portion of their offseason leisure time to teaching the youth of Jamaica the American sport of football.

The trio tagged team with a number of foundations, respective interns, volunteers, and the parents of players to host two sport camps throughout Jamaica. The event is highly anticipated and this year marks the fifth year of its continuance.

All events were initiated and concluded with press conferences held at the renowned Courtleigh Hotel and Breezes Inn at Montego Bay, with remarks made by all persons including supporters, sponsors, executives, and players.

"It makes me feel really good inside since the first time my foundation [Rudi Johnson Foundation] joined the RuJohn Foundation and came out here to help these kids," said Pro Bowl running back Rudi Johnson. The Ettrick, Virginia native went on to say, "Sometimes we take some of the things we have in America for granted so it just makes me humble and glad to come back here and help them like I would want someone to help me if I were in their position."

This year's collaborative forces led to the organization and implementation of camps that gave Jamaican athletes the opportunity to get the feel of U.S. football equipment while working with the athletes and culminated with the donation of school supplies, school appliances, monetary presentations, athletic equipment, and a number of academic scholarships.
